HIMSS Certifications
CAHIMS
The Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems certification is a pathway for expanding and diversifying industry knowledge for both early careerists and those with more experience. This is a newer HIMSS certification that has been available since 2017.
CPHIMS
The Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems is a certification program for experienced professionals, acknowledging and honoring their proven expertise and commitment to the field. This is HIMSS flagship certification that has been available since 2002.
CPHIMS-CA
The Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems with Canadian Regional Endorsement has been offered by HIMSS in partnership with Digital Health Canada since 2005. Candidates take both the CPHIMS exam and the Canadian Supplemental Exam. Recertification requirements include additional 15 CE units that are focused on Canadian content.
CPDHTS
The Certified Professional in Digital Health Transformation Strategy is a certification program designed to demonstrate your knowledge and competence in digital health transformation strategy – including person-enabled health, measurement and improvement, and strategy, governance and organizational management. This is new HIMSS certification that has become widely available as of 2024.
Recertification
Certification credential renewal is every three years for the CAHIMS and CPHIMS; and every two years for the CPDHTS. To renew your certification, either retake and pass the examination or submit a renewal application.
Continuing Education Hours
Individuals are responsible for tracking their own continuing education hours earned during a renewal cycle. Log into your HIMSS account, and start documenting your continuing education hours.
