Ready for Change- Results of Accenture Canada Health Providers Survey
The Canadian health system, from public health prevention services through primary care to institutional care settings, is facing an existential crisis as frontline providers are struggling to cope with increasing demand for their services amid a shrinking workforce. Capacity issues have been compounded by mental health challenges, with many providers experiencing burnout and compassion fatigue due to the pandemic. This has had a significant impact on patient care, leaving many Canadians unable to access primary care services, experiencing longer wait times, or dying prematurely.
The results of our latest survey are a stark reminder that the current situation in healthcare is not sustainable. Frontline providers have made it clear that without stronger collaboration across the entire health system, a better future cannot be established. It is time for all stakeholders to come together and work towards a more effective healthcare system that prioritizes patient outcomes and provider well-being. Key findings include:
- Frontline providers are facing increased mental health challenges.
- Frontline providers are ready and eager to use more digital technologies and automation to streamline care.
- There’s a need to better prepare the frontline workforce for technological advancements.
- They want and are ready for greater collaboration between various health providers to improve patient outcomes.
The need for change is clear, and providers are calling for a shift towards a streamlined system that makes use of digital technology to enable collaboration across disciplines. Demand for services across the continuum of care and from all parts of our population will not be met by the available supply of human resources. We have taken the opportunity to listen closely to frontline clinicians in identifying tangible opportunities to better support clinicians and return capacity back into our health system.
This presentation will highlight key insights from our survey of 455 frontline providers across Canada.* It seeks to identify the key areas where technology and automation can have the greatest impact and generate opportunities for various healthcare stakeholders, including the private sector and technology players. The objective is to address the existing capacity challenges in our healthcare system by leveraging their expertise and innovation strengths.
