interRAI in Alberta: Past, Present, and Future
This presentation will provide an overview of the history of interRAI assessments in Alberta, detailing the data collection process and its flow to the Alberta Continuing Care Information System (ACCIS), and subsequently to the Continuing Care Reporting System (CCRS) and Home Care Reporting System (HCRS) at CIHI. It will outline the core responsibilities of Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services concerning the upcoming decommissioning of HCRS and CCRS, as well as the ongoing transition to the new integrated suite of interRAI assessments (LTCF, interRAI Home Care) and IRRS. A primary focus will be data capture and flow to the new Provincial Continuing Care Information System.

Chris leads the Alberta Health Services team, overseeing the implementation of interRAI assessments across Alberta. His responsibilities include Clinical Practice Guidance, Education, Competency Development, and ensuring the monitoring and integrity of assessment data. Additionally, Chris collaborates with Pauline on the provincial adoption of the new integrated suite of interRAI assessments. This includes AHS becoming a vendor to develop the assessments within EPIC-Connect Care and managing the eventual submission of data to PCCIS and the Integrated interRAI Reporting System (IRRS) at CIHI.

Pauline led Alberta Health teams in adopting standardized interRAI assessments (MDS 2.0, RAI-HC) in Continuing Care in the mid-2000s and developed the Alberta Continuing Care Information System (ACCIS). Currently, Pauline is the lead for implementing new interRAI assessments (LTCF, interRAI Home Care) and developing the Provincial Continuing Care Information System (PCCIS), which will replace ACCIS for data collection and CIHI submissions. She also ensures the Department and Continuing Care sector have the necessary information for supporting initiatives.
